Winter is coming!

Take care, not antibiotics!

We need antibiotics against bacterial infections therefore we should not use it to treat colds, flu, cought and bronchitis, sore throats (unless caused by strep) when these diseases are caused by viruses.

So, it does not make sense taking antibiotics when we have symptoms regarding common cold. In addition we have some techniques that we can do by ourselves, such as,
  • Drink plenty of fluids to replace those lost due to sweating and a runny nose.
  • Get plenty of rest - there's no official guidance as to how long a person should stay off work or school. Most people know when they're fit enough to return to normal activities.
  • Eat healthily: a low-fat, high-fibre diet is recommended, including plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables (5 portions a day).
